Game news World of Warcraft Dragonflight: History, news, release date ουμε Take stock
On April 19, Blizzard surprised us by announcing the arrival of the Wrath of the Lich King in World of Warcraft Classic. But this talk was above all an opportunity to present the ninth expansion of WoW in its proper form with the help of an epic trailer: Dragonflight. At the same time, the developers have shared with us a lot of information about the latter. History, flight behind dragons, release date, configuration… We take stock of everything we need to know about Dragonflight expansion.

What is the story of Dragonflight?
After a long sleep, the dragonflights returned to Azeroth to defend their homeland, the Isle of Dragons. But our firefighters have lost their power. Between the sacrifice of power and the loss of important members, the Dragonflights (Red, Blue, Green and Bronze) are weakened. Your mission is therefore clear: help them regain their strength and a certain unity, while you will discover the history of these ancestral protectors. The main plot of this new World of Warcraft expansion will revolve around this plot. However, with its unique trailer, Blizzard was quite evasive. We therefore expect more information on the narrative of this extension, both in terms of guidelines and in terms of complications.
Where is Dragonflight in the World of Warcraft tradition?
The story presented to us by the DragonFlight extension takes on full meaning when you study the WoW tradition for a while. The trailer also tells us about an event that took place 10,000 years before those of Dragonflight: a catastrophic war, probably the so-called war of the ancients. Opposite the Burning Legion of the demonic Sargera and an army of resistance, an inexhaustible source of magic took place around the Well of Eternity. If the result was victorious for the good side, the conflict had, as you can imagine given the place, terrible consequences. The Well of Eternity exploded and broke the lands of Azeroth. Thus were born the different continents we know and the evil that gnaws at them. And it is also from this moment that the dragons left their fortress to regain the role entrusted to them by the guardian Tyr for a long time: protect Azeroth.
At the time, Galakrod, the protagonist of the insatiable hunger, was threatening the good balance of the world. Tyr then called five dragons to stand in front of him: Alexstrasza, Malygos, Neltharion, Nozdormu and Ysera. All from a different faction (called Dragonflight), united to defeat Galakrond and thus save the world. To please them, the Titans gave them strength and immortality. But a few thousand years later, during Wow’s third expansion, Cataclysm, they had to give up these gifts to seal the terrible Neltharion (or Deathwing).
Suffice it to say that the story of Dragonflight will be placed in the straight line of a very dense tradition that has long given great importance to the Dragons. We even have to find famous characters like Chef Kirin Tor, Khadgar and Irion, one of the only survivors of Black Dragonflight. In the trailer, we see the latter calling on the heroes of Azeroth to help him recapture the citadel of Black Flight, which has fallen under the control of an enemy force. While the rival behind this evil has not yet emerged, Blizzard assures us that Dragonflight will also signal the return of an old enemy.
What do we know about the new continent?
In addition to history, this expansion will of course bring its share of new features, starting with a new area. The fortress of our winged protectors, the Isle of Dragons, can be explored by players. As with any expansion, this new continent will be divided into five zones. From the shores of the Awakening to the Ohn’ahra Plains via the Azur Travée, the Forbidden Borders or even Thaldraszus, the biomes presented will be different and above all governed by different entities. Each Dragonflight rules its own area.
Description of the different zones
- Shores of Awakening (Red Dragonflight): wild soils made of lava where they are elementary.
- Ohn’ahra Plains (Green Dragonflight): green plains where we meet mainly the Maruuk Centaurs.
- The Azure Span (Blue Dragonflight): Foggy forest inhabited by Gnolls and Tuskarrs ranging from tundra to snowy waterfalls
- Thaldraszus (Bronze Dragonflight): heart of dragonflight power made of mountains and caves
- Prohibited borders: separate island, outside the islands of Drakos.
Therefore, if the Dragons are in control of this continent, this does not prevent some other creatures from living there. Specifically, you can meet Gnolls and Centaurs. And we suspect that coexistence between these different species is not always easy on Dragon Island.
What do we know about the new class?
It has been six years since World of Warcraft introduced a new category. So Dragonflight is profoundly changing the situation by offering us the Evians. If the latter offer gameplay and their own techniques, it is above all by their nature that they stand out. Indeed, it is the first category of WoW that depends on a race, and vice versa. To play Evocators, players will have no choice but to choose a character from the new race, Dracthyr (dragon soldiers trained by Neltharion).
Note that on the game side, we already have some details. Dragons’ abilities can be improved holding the key assigned to them for several seconds. As for the specialties, you can choose the destructive power of fire (Devastation) or the vital magic of renewal (Preservation). Blizzard also promises us strong customization. In addition, we suspect that Dracthyrs will play an important role in the history of this expansion.
What other new features does Dragonflight have in store for us?
Who says dragons, tells new creatures to ride to fly away. Beware though, the flight on the dragons’ backs is different from the classic flight. It will be considered as a skill in itself, which must be improved in order to be able to access new flight maneuvers. In addition to the epic aspect of the thing, this new way of moving opens the way to a new way of exploring the world of World of Warcraft. We can thus hope that a continent larger than the previous ones will be discovered.
This extension is also an opportunity to improve some aspects of WoW. The talent system will be renewed. Divided into two, it will allow players to have more specialization options. On the one hand, then, we will find the specialties that concern the selected class, and on the other, more general specialties. The system of professions and crafts will also be entitled to a general repair, just like the game interface being updated for the first time. It will include an editing feature that will excite players. Add to that, among other things, an increase in level cap (70), new dungeons, a brand new raid and an overhaul of Uldaman, among others, and you have Dragonflight.
As for season 1 of Dragonflight’s Mythic + feature, it should offer four new dungeons and four more already known to players.
What is the release date of Dragonflight?
No date has been announced by Blizzard, not even a small release window. However, we do know that developers are preparing a beta for us. To hope that you will have the opportunity to be invited, you already can subscribe to the official website of the extension.
When will the pre-patch start?
As usual, the developers have planned a series of in-game events in order to present the upcoming expansion. This is called a pre-patch and Dragonflight will be right there. Unfortunately, it is not yet known when the last one will start. Blizzard also gave us some information about this. For two weeks (probably shortly before the release of the expansion), players will be able to discover a new version of one of the old World of Warcraft dungeons, Uldaman. At the same time, they can too try out the new category and features introduced by the ninth WoW extension.
What are the minimum requirements to play Dragonflight?
We do not yet know the minimum system requirements for WoW. But if the gaming machine evolves and therefore becomes more demanding, players with less efficient configuration will have to find their account. Indeed, the philosophy of this iconic MMORPG remains the same: allow as many players as possible to enjoy WoW, regardless of their budget.
