On paper, this Galaxy A33 5G has a configuration similar to that of the 2021 model. Therefore, we find a quad photo sensor consisting of a 48 megapixel wide-angle lens, whose lens opens at f / 1.8, an extremely wide-angle 8 Mpx angle (f / 2.2), a 5 Mpx macro unit (f / 2.4) and a 2 Mpx depth sensor (f / 2.4). That said, the treatment applied by Samsung is much more convincing in this model.

We compared it to the Realme 9 Pro +, one of the best camera phones in this price range.

The 48MP main unit captures 12MP snapshots by default. As with most smartphones, it leverages its technology pixel commitment allowing four pixels to be merged into one in order to capture more light when finished.

During the day, the Galaxy A33 5G offers good download quality. The treatment made by Samsung is easily recognizable, especially thanks to the always saturated colors (as shown in the test tables) and the strong contrast. However, this allows you to take advantage of a legible and clear photo. Realme 9 Pro + offers a more detailed performance and allows, for example, to notice roughness on the cover of a book or map. The colorimetry is more accurate and gives a more natural shade to the whole, but Samsung does not need to be ashamed even in front of its (very good) rival.

Things inevitably get complicated in the dark. In a weakly exposed scene, the digital smoothing of the Galaxy A33 5G drops the level of detail. The whole therefore loses readability. The Realme 9 Pro + definitely shows more noise, but the performance is much better. In particular, we enjoy a more advanced sharpness that allows for fairly accurate shots, even in low light.

Operation 48 MP

It is always possible to impose the full definition with an adjustment. Therefore, we compared 12 Mpx shots with 48 Mpx shots, isolating an area of ​​the same size in both. You can see the difference in the definition.

During the day, this feature is really interesting. Without significantly lengthening the shot, it allows you to take advantage of a higher level of detail and delivers a more natural treatment than standard operation. In the dark, digital smoothing on the other hand is much more visible and does not allow you to take advantage of a substantially better shot. Therefore, this feature will be intended for shooting in bright environments.

The extremely wide angle unit is unfortunately not surprising. During the day, the scene is overexposed and lacks sharpness, but remains usable. The level of detail is far from optimal, but so is the Realme 9 Pro +. The latter offers a more opposite and saturated performance, but we are far from the performance of the main sensor.

At night, neither smartphone manages to get out of the game. Digital noise invades the image and the shots are almost unused. Downloading is even faster in Realme 9 Pro +.

Front unit and video unit

On the front, we do not find the very good 32 Mpx sensor of the Galaxy A53, but a 13 Mpx unit whose lens opens at f / 2.2. However, the shots are quite successful and benefit from good sharpness, provided they are well exposed.

Wide angle is capable of shooting up to 4K at 30 fps and in Full HD up to 60 fps. We recommend the latter. The performance is quite good despite the difficulties in managing the labels. So pay attention to the backlights.
