“We worked hard! All day. It was physical, it was stressful. They took advantage of us “, hammers Zumana. He and eight others parcel distributors worked for several months in the district of Rouen from the company Lumina services, subcontractor from Amazon. Everyone complains of non-compliance with their working conditions and demands salaries they have not received.
On Thursday, April 28, 2022, the CGT organized a sudden mobilization to Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvraynear Rouen (Seine Maritime) to defend the rights of these workers. During this picket, trade unionists received cars and trucks to distribute leaflets and raise awareness. The choice of meeting place was not left to chance: the strikers were located a few meters from the Amazon warehouse in the industrial zone.
You have to go back a few months to understand the context. In October 2021, while already working in Paris as a deliverer for Amazon, someone from Lumina Services contacted Zoumana. Then they would have promised him “a good salary, but also legalization through work”. He is a paperless worker. So Zumana talks to some of his acquaintances in the same situation as him and many of them choose to sign a permanent contract with Lumina Services.
The first salaries fall, but they quickly realize the difference, “sometimes around 300 to 500 euros”, between their contract and the transfers they receive in their account. “We worked more, 24, 25 days a month, we made less, it didn’t make sense,” Zumana and Patrick insist. They want explanations, but “they quickly made us realize that we had no interest in asking for much.
“Used and returned” overnight
Then, “overnight”, they were finally fired. The ax fell in February. “There was a phone call and we were fired,” said Zumana and others.
“They were hired on indefinite contracts and not on fixed-term contracts to avoid paying the uninsured premium. And as soon as the holiday deliveries were over at the end of the year, they were fired without even receiving a letter of dismissal, “said Pierre Louvard, CGT 76’s undocumented employee file. is therefore still in progress. »
They know we need them and so they take advantage of it. They used us and then kicked us out.
Contact from 76aways, Fatoumata Sow, president of Lumina Services, points out “I can not answer. “If there are things they have to accuse me of, it will be up to the authorities to act.”
Amazon also responded with a press release: “Delivery companies that Amazon works with hire and manage their own teams. We are adamant that they must comply with applicable law as well as the Amazon Vendor Code of Conduct. Our teams regularly inspect these companies to ensure their compliance. We are currently investigating these escalations and will take appropriate action if the delivery partner does not comply with these requirements. »
Mediation with the prefecture?
“Many people are afraid, they are afraid of losing their job. I understand them. “We have nothing else to lose,” said Zumana. Supported by CGT, the distributors claim their salary arrears, as well as the documents that allow them to obtain their legalization.
Joachim Moysethe mayor (PCF) of Saint-ientienne-du-Rouvray, went to meet the distributors, promising to write a letter to the prefecture of Seine-Maritime to try to unblock the situation.
“The mobilization is for an indefinite period of time, until the situation is resolved,” said Pierre Louvard of CGT. On the occasion of the established demonstration on May 1 in Rouen, the nine distributors will be, symbolically, at the head of the procession.
