We are now used to seeing Tesla models at the top of the electric car sales charts. In March, the American brand did much better by placing one model in first place and another in third place throughout the European market, including petrol and diesel vehicles.
Last month, Tesla achieved a nice double by placing the Model 3 and Model Y in the top two sales positions of electric vehicles. In March, it is even better as the Tesla Model 3 is simply the best-selling car in Europe with 23,013 registered units. And we find the Model Y on the third step of the podium with its 18,968 registrations. Three other models in the 10 best sellers offer an electric version in their range: Peugeot 208, Fiat 500 and Opel Corsa. Throughout the quarter, however, the star of the European market is called the Peugeot 208. It is ahead of the Dacia Sandero and the Volkswagen Golf.

In the electric vehicle market alone, Tesla dominates the competition outrageously. It sells 3 times more Model Y than the Fiat 500 which we find at the 3ᵉ point of sale. 41% of Fiat 500s sold are electric versions. The percentage drops to 20 for the Peugeot 208.
Hyundai-Kia is still well represented with the Kia Niro and Hyundai Kona, while there are also models now used in the Top 10, such as the Renault Zoé, the Peugeot e-208, the Dacia Spring or the Volkswagen ID.4. But even with month-to-month stability, Tesla’s suspension volumes this month are crushing everything. Twice Model 3 models were sold in March by Niro, Kona, Zoe or 500 throughout the quarter …
The BMW i3 is still doing well a few months before the end of its production, climbing to tenth place.

Plug-in hybrids have not said their last word. This month, the Ford Kuga is well ahead of the Volvo XC40 and Peugeot 3008.

244,801 plug-in cars were registered in March on the continent, of which 62% were electric cars and 38% plug-in hybrids. This represents 21.9% of the total of 1,116,419 cars.
