The design of the Galaxy Book2 Pro 15 is very sober in its black version. Very monolithic in appearance, its chassis is slightly thinner at the front. The aluminum cover has a sandblasted finish similar to that offered by Apple on its MacBooks. The rest of the chassis is plastic, with a piano processed against the fingerprints. Despite its fineness and weight, it benefits from its convincing rigidity. It is therefore more rigid than the LG Gram 16, but does not reach the level of an aluminum frame of an Apple MacBook Pro.
Opening the cover reveals the Amoled panel with a glossy finish. This is done in a very glossy plastic frame, but with thin margins.
The backlit keyboard is decorated with a three-column numeric keypad with a start button in the upper right corner, which also acts as a fingerprint reader. Typing on the keyboard does not suffer from any defects. The keys are very slightly curved and the quality performance.
The large touchpad is in the same spirit, with smooth sliding and gestures of Windows with 2, 3 or 4 fingers that are perfectly taken into account.
The connection is varied and will satisfy all users. There are two Thunderbolt 4 ports and an HDMI 2.0 port on the left side, a USB 3.0 port, a mini-jack slot and a microSD reader on the other side.
For wireless connectivity, Samsung did not bother and chose the Intel AX211 chip compatible with wifi 6E with a cumulative speed of 2.4 Gb / s and Bluetooth 5.2. The 720p webcam above the screen, on the other hand, does not work wonders. It has no detail, even in good lighting conditions.
The Book2 Pro 15 cooling system consists of two fans and two radiators connected to a heat pipe that draws heat from the 12th generation Intel processor. After a little over 15 minutes of coding, we recorded a maximum temperature of 52 ° C above the function keys. the keys in the center of the keyboard are about 41 ° C. The temperature is a bit high, it must be acknowledged, Samsung has favored silent operation, even in the so-called Optimized mode, since the noise pollution does not exceed 34 dB. You could use Book2 Pro 15 in a library without people noticing at the next table. If you want to benefit from more stable cooling and lower temperatures, you need to switch to Performance mode which releases the fan rotation speed. then the noise increases to 40.5 dB.
Disassembling the Galaxy Book2 Pro 15 is simple at first glance: 4 Phillips screws under removable pads hold the shell. However, removing the shell is particularly painful. You need to find a lever on the hinges and then release each of the retaining clips 2 or 3 cm apart.
Inside, only the battery and SSD are removed. The RAM is glued to the back of the motherboard and the wifi chip to an auxiliary board. Note in the passage the presence of a second M.2 port, free of charge, to add an SSD to the right of the right fan.
The Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 15 is equipped with the Intel Core i7-1260P processor accompanied by 16 GB of DDR5 RAM and 512 GB SSD. This hybrid processor consists of 4 so-called “efficiency” supernatant cores and 8 so-called “efficient” cores, all for a 28 W thermal envelope. At the time of our coding, the P cores were operating at an average of 2.37 GHz, with peaks at 4.7 GHz, while E cores stabilized at 1.96 GHz on average, with a maximum of 3.4 GHz.
In all our performance tests, the Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro turns out to be a bit faster than the Asus ZenBook 14 Oled, which however is equipped with the same processor (115 vs. 108). This is explained by a more aggressive setting by Samsung, with a 51 Watt envelope allowed for 28 seconds – versus 28 Watt over the same period for Asus – before stabilizing at 28 Watt.
The Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 15 drops the LG Gram 16, of comparable dimensions, which remains stationary at just 73.
On the other hand, the performance of the built-in SSD is not great, as Samsung has chosen a model that seems to be intended for assemblers. So it reaches 2.29 GB / s in reading and 1.2 GB / s. If in practice this is more than enough for everyday use without slowing down Windows, users who would add a second, faster SSD would be limited by this original SSD when moving between the two storage units.
Logically, in its product lines, Samsung designed the screen that equips the Galaxy Book2 Pro 15. And chose nothing, since there is a 15.6-inch Amoled panel Full HD (1920 x 1080 px) at 60 Hz. As a result, the manufacturer remained relatively conservative using a simple Full HD panel without HDR and with a very classic refresh rate.
Under our sensor, the colors of this panel are very faithful. Delta E of 1.3 is well below 3, the threshold below which the eye no longer perceives colorimetric shifts. Due to the design of the OLED panels, the contrast is almost infinite and the reaction time is almost zero.
The color temperature (7248 K) on the other hand is slightly higher than the standard video (6500 K) and is therefore slightly blue.
The maximum brightness of 398 cd / m² does not break the ceiling, but is on average of recently tested computers.
Finally, the anti-reflective treatment is very good since the reflection rate is only 28.2% in this glossy panel, not far from that of the matte panel, which is less than 20%.
Mobility / Autonomy
Side measurements, Samsung is possible. If the width (35.5 cm) and length (32.5 cm) of the Galaxy Book2 Pro 15 is within the norm, it is in terms of thickness (1.17 cm) that impresses the Korean. And what about its weight which is only 1125 g on our scales… It’s not even the fast 65 W charger that will burden your bag (only 163 g with its USB-C cable).
With such measurements, Samsung could have compromised the size of the battery, but not at all. The father of the Galaxy managed to accommodate a 68 Wh battery allowing the Book2 Pro 15 to last for 10 hours and 30 minutes according to our usual protocol (reading Netflix in Chrome, the screen brightness was calibrated to 200 cd / m²). A performance we should welcome, especially because it does better than the Asus Zenbook 14 Oled (8 hours 40 minutes) equipped with the same processor with 75 Wh battery. Therefore, it should most likely last an entire day away from a charger or power bank.
Well calibrated plate.
Just satisfactory SSD performance.
Set Full HD screen only.
How does scoring work?
The Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 15 marks almost every box: its impressive chassis makes no compromises, either in performance or in autonomy, and the screen is very well made, with true colors and effective anti-reflective processing. We’re just sorry that the table definition is lower than that of the best laptops at this point.
