Battle Leader

The main theme of the world of cooking, Battle Chef Brigade is a title that combines elements of action, platform and roles, all sprinkled with elements of puzzle games. The story takes place in the Victusia universe where members of the Battle Chef Brigade are adored as they can transform the wildest monsters into delicious dishes. But to join this elite, chefs have to compete with each other in tough competition. So we follow the course of Mina and Thrash throughout the tournament so that they finally become brigadiers. Control in hand, the game is divided into two parts. First of all, you have to defeat the enemies in 2D action-platform phases in a very successful design. Then, in a second step, cooking takes the form of puzzle game challenges, in which you have to align the elements to make the best possible dish. Enjoy your lunch!

In the ’80s and’ 90s, Squaresoft used to rename some games in the West to stick the name Final Fantasy on them and try to speak to a wider audience. That’s why the first installments of the SaGa franchise are known in the United States as the Final Fantasy Legend. Thanks to the collection of SaGa: Final Fantasy Legend, which brings together the three games released in Game Boy, players will be able to discover the origin of the SaGa series in more comfortable conditions. We remind you that these are turn-based role-playing games with rather specific rules, but which worked as an influence for the Pokémon franchise. To compensate for the old aspect of these titles, the collection offers some comfort options, such as higher game speed, zoom, customizable wallpaper, or even activating portrait mode after Joy-Con has been removed.

Summing up CrossCode, we could say that it is one of the best J-RPGs … in Germany. Developed by Radical Fish Games, a small German studio, it is a 2D retro-style role-playing game reminiscent of 16-bit consoles. Putting the gameplay in the foreground, the title offers the exploration of dungeons that combine puzzles and classic action-adventure phases with frantic battle. To succeed, you must take advantage of your opponents’ weaknesses through a variety of equipment. It is up to you to discover a huge world consisting of seven different and unique zones in which 120 types of enemies and more than thirty bosses are waiting for you. Finally, the title has seven dungeons that have their own puzzles, as well as 90 skills that allow you to fight as you wish.

Dragon Quest III

A classic parody, the Dragon Quest series released its first episodes on Switch a few years ago. Among the three games available on the console, it’s hard not to recommend Dragon Quest III, which is considered by many to be one of the best works in the epic, if not the best. While you wait to get your hands on the new 2D-HD version scheduled for an unknown date, you can discover the original game in a graphics update. As for the story, we embody Elric, the son of Ortega, a hero of the kingdom of Alia, who must eliminate Baramos, the lord of darkness, an opponent so fierce that even his father could not defeat him. Before embarking on an adventure, it is up to you to build your team with the help of three other companions whose work you can choose. Enough to put together the best team to beat all the opponents standing in your way.

Final Fantasy VII-VII-IX

For the past few years, the Switch has hosted a number of Final Fantasy games from the PlayStation 1 and 2 eras. all available for less than twenty euros. In any case, you will have to face three great adventures that offer turn-based combat, epic and moving moments, cult characters, all accompanied by the music of Nobuo Uematsu, the epic composer. Unfortunately for more recent episodes like Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, Final Fantasy XI Online is an MMORPG only available on PC today, these are over twenty euros, but we still have them we suggest.

An independent production that has become a cult over the years, Undertale is a role-playing series based on minimalist graphics and a truly unique approach. We embody a child who one day falls into a hole and has to explore the world of monsters to get out of it. As he progresses, the player discovers terribly nice characters who will more or less try to help him find his way. The great originality of Undertale is that it offers you the opportunity to face or not all the monsters you encounter, something that will radically change your future. In addition, the battles are also special because when your opponent attacks, you can avoid hitting him through a variety of mini-games that will ask you to face. A truly unique experience that leaves no one indifferent. Finally, if you’ve already turned the title, we remind you that the first two chapters of Toby Fox’s new game, Deltarune, an Undertale rewrite, are available for free at the Switch eShop.

Star Ocean First Departure R

The first Star Ocean remake released in 1996 in Japan, Star Ocean: First Departure R is a role-playing game set in a universe that combines science fiction and medieval fantasy. We play Roddick, a young boy who lives on the primitive planet Roak and is a member of the local defense forces, responsible for protecting the peaceful village of Kratus. But one day, our hero learns that a mysterious disease that can paralyze infected people without killing them is spreading to the neighboring city. While going there with his friends Millie and Dorne, they discover the existence of a cure and look for it on Mount Metorx. At the top of the latter, however, they meet Ronyx and Sylvester who will turn their lives upside down. With its colorful and updated 2D graphics, the title also benefits from new illustrations for the characters of the most beautiful effect.

The LAST REMNANT Remastered

Looking forward to news about Final Fantasy XVI? So why not try one of Hiroshi Takai’s previous games? In fact, in 2008, the latter was in charge of The Last Remnant, a Japanese role-playing game that stood out for its single combats and which was entitled to a remastered version of Switch. Like Final Fantasy XII, our title sinks into the skin of Rush Sykes who sees his life turned upside down when his sister is kidnapped. He is then on the battlefield and will meet David Nassau, the Duke of Athlum, who decides to take him under his protection. The great originality of the title is based on the battles in which you lead an army and where the morale of the troops plays a central role. A true experimental production from the PS3-Xbox 360 era signed Square Enix as it is the first game from the Japanese publisher to be developed using the Unreal Engine 3 engine.

Valkyria Chronicles Remastered

A true pearl of J-RPG on PS3, Valkyria Chronicles Remastered was entitled to a remastered version on PC, PS4 and Switch. In an atmosphere reminiscent of World War II without saying the name, the adventure takes the form of a tactical role-playing game in which you move your troops from turn to turn before aiming and shooting using “firearms”. In addition to a moving script about the aftermath of a conflict, the title benefits from a beautiful and quite unique artistic direction in cell shading with a very intense pencil style. A real successful tactical experience, the fourth episode of which is still available on Switch and which this time takes place on the Eastern Front, in the heart of the snowy lands.

Ys Origin

If the Ys series is not the best known of its kind, it is nevertheless one of the oldest J-RPG epics that still exist today. This time it’s Ys Origin, an episode released in 2006 on PC, on PS4 and PS Vita in 2017 and finally on Switch in 2020. If you can ignore the real old graphics of the title, then you can enjoy a particularly nervous action role – play experience thanks to the dynamic movements of the three characters that can be embodied. Each of them is part of an elite group sent by the Ys rulers to explore a monumental tower overwhelmed by demons. An effective Action-RPG that lets go of steam, but that can discourage some with its old graphics.
